The building at 4139 U.S. Highway 17 Business sits at the far southern tip of the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, in front of Wicked Tuna and the Murrells Inlet Boat Launch. The Post and Courier reports that it will reopen as Boathouse on the Inlet, a second location for The Landing at the Boathouse. MyHorryNews puts the opening target at spring 2027. The last four tenants each opened with a new menu. This one will open with a stage.
That matters for anyone who walks the boards on a weeknight. The south end is becoming the MarshWalk's music end, and the change started before this lease was signed.
Four Names on One Door
The Post and Courier lists the tenants that came before the Boathouse, oldest first:
- Mojo's Marina Bar & Grille
- Neptune's Bistro and Raw Bar
- Sloppy Jose's Cantina, which served Mexican and Caribbean-style food from 2024 until early 2026
- Inlet Shipwreck Bar & Grill, a pirate-themed seafood and burger spot with an all-day happy hour
The last two changes came fast. The Sun News reported that the cantina's owners decided after a little over a year that the concept was not working. It closed at the start of 2026 so Inlet Shipwreck could take over. Shipwreck opened on Feb. 25, cut its weekday hours to 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday about a month before the paper checked on it, and closed in September. A later Sun News story said the restaurant had been open less than a year.
Through all four tenants, the building, the water view and the boat launch next door stayed the same. What changed each time was the theme on the menu. Boathouse co-owner Misty Pate described the site plainly in the Post and Courier: "The place has changed hands a lot and nothing has quite stuck, but we believe it's a great location."
A Brand That Already Has a Following
The new owners aren't inventing a concept. Pate and her business partner Tripp Coan run the original Landing at the Boathouse at 201 Fantasy Harbour Blvd., near the U.S. Highway 501 bridge outside Myrtle Beach. It has been there since 2005. Its Sunday Summer Concert Series has booked national acts including Afroman, Colt Ford, Drivin N Cryin, Sir Mix-a-Lot, The Stews and Whiskey Myers, the Post and Courier reported. The original site also hosts charity events, and the owners plan to bring that same approach to the inlet. Pate also co-owns Conch Cafe in Surfside Beach with Coan.
"We're not having to build a brand," Pate told the Post and Courier. "The Boathouse is established and this will be a similar concept, just on a smaller scale."
The smaller scale shapes who will play there. Pate laid out the lineup in the same article:
"We will have more local acts and up-and-comers because we can't hold as many people. We will have an outdoor stage with one of the best views of the inlet, a beautiful bar."
In MyHorryNews, Pate said the concerts will feature talent locals will recognize. She described the crowd she is building for as "babies to college kids to moms, dads and seniors." The menu will carry over best-sellers from Fantasy Harbour, including wings, chicken bog bowls and the chicken avocado club. It will add more seafood and a signature cocktail.
With known dishes on the menu, the stage becomes the reason to visit. Pate also said the building "already looks like the Boathouse," so the work is mostly about the venue's own spin, not a rebuild.
The South End Already Has a Regular Music Schedule
The new stage will sit directly in front of Wicked Tuna, and Wicked Tuna already keeps a busy live-music calendar. Its events page lists rotating artists on weekdays and weekends, with sets generally running 5 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and 7 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Two weekly regulars are on the schedule. Lost Remotes play every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Josh McCaa plays every Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Two music venues side by side, near a public boat launch, give the south end a pull of its own. A table at Wicked Tuna and an outdoor stage next door make an evening at that end of the boardwalk without walking north. The Boathouse owners are betting on this location as a music destination.
The rest of the MarshWalk shows why music is a reasonable bet here. Live music is already part of a normal week up and down the boardwalk, as the schedules below show.
Where the Music Is Until Spring
Boathouse on the Inlet is a 2027 story. Here is what's on the posted calendars for the rest of 2026.
| Venue | Posted pattern | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Dead Dog Saloon | Live acts almost every day through October, with November dates posted. Sets generally 7 to 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 8 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday | Dead Dog events |
| Drunken Jack's | Weekday live music in a 4 to 8 p.m. window, Monday through Friday | Drunken Jack's events |
| Wicked Tuna | Lost Remotes on Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m. Josh McCaa on Tuesdays, 5 to 9 p.m. Rotating weekend sets, 7 to 11 p.m. | Wicked Tuna events |
Drunken Jack's sets end by early evening, and Dead Dog's start at 7 or 8 p.m. That lets a weeknight run from an after-work set to a late one without much of a gap. Weekend times shift, so check each venue's calendar before heading out.
Four dates to plan around, three from the MarshWalk calendar and one from Wicked Tuna:
- Halloween on the MarshWalk, Saturday, Oct. 31, 5 to 10 p.m. Kids' trick-or-treating starts at 5 p.m., the children's costume contest is at 6 p.m. and the adult contest is at 7 p.m., with more than $4,000 in cash and prizes. Adult registration is at Tuna Shak, and final judging is between Wahoo's and Drunken Jack's. Event details.
- Wicked Tuna Oyster Roast, Saturday, Nov. 7. The listing promises live music but hasn't named the performers yet.
- Wonderland of Lights, Nov. 27 through Dec. 31. Free admission, with the light display running nightly. Santa's Village is open Fridays through Sundays from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20. Event details.
- New Year's Eve, Dec. 31. The MarshWalk calendar says all eight participating restaurants will pair food and drink specials with live music.
Halloween is the nearest of these and the one that crosses the most of the boardwalk. Registration starts at Tuna Shak, and judging wraps up between Wahoo's and Drunken Jack's. Wonderland of Lights then fills the stretch from Thanksgiving weekend to New Year's Eve, which gets the MarshWalk through most of the quiet months until the Boathouse's spring opening.
For updates on the opening date, MyHorryNews points readers to the venue's Instagram account, boathousemb. Until then, the music is at Dead Dog Saloon, Drunken Jack's and Wicked Tuna, a few steps from where the new stage will go.
At Jack Chazen, we design homes around the same idea that makes a waterfront stage work: water views, an outdoor space built for gathering, and an evening that runs past sunset. If you'd like to see how that translates to a private residence on the Grand Strand, Schedule Your Private Tour and we'll show you in person.
